If studying in a smaller university setting with a studio-teacher ratio of just ten sounds ideal--and the idea of easy access to beaches, lakes, and forests is also appealing--a semester or year at Bond University may be a good fit. The university, which enrolls 2,700 students, is located on Australia's famed Gold Coast, just over an hour by train from Brisbane. Applicants may apply for the fall, spring or summer semester, or academic year, and choose from a broad array of courses, many of which emphasize Australian culture and issues.

  • Bond University, located about an hour outside of Brisbane on the beautiful Gold Coast, enrolls approximately 2,700 students. with a student-staff ratio of ten to one, and small class sizes, it provides a more intimate study abroad experience than that of other Australian universities. Participants are expected to enroll in four courses each semester, for a total of 16 credits per semester, and may choose from a diverse array of offerings.

    Bond is unique in that it operates on a three-semester year, offering a new semester in September, January and May. Arcadia University participants may choose either for a one-semester option, or enroll in a full academic year.

  • Application Process: The deadline for applying for the fall semester or academic year is April 20; the deadline for the spring semester is October 15; and the deadline for the summer semester is March 31. Prospective participants may apply online, or can download the application form online and send it via regular mail. A form completed by the Study Abroad Advisor at the applicants' home universities, as well as one academic letter of recommendation, are required; both forms can be downloaded online. Applicants must also submit an official transcript from their home universities, as well was eight full-face passport photos (some programs require more).

    Applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and be in good academic standing to be considered for admission to this program.

  • Tuition and fees for a semester: approximately $17,940
    Tuition and fees for an academic year: approximately $30,970

    The tuition portion of the total fee includes tuition for a full arts and most social science academic course load, pre-program advisory services, orientation, complete support services from on-site staff during the program, an International Student Identity Card (ISIC), health and accident insurance, post-program follow-up, and transcripts. The housing portion of the total fee covers shared accommodations. Students may have the option to participate in a homestay for an additional fee. Arcadia University awards millions of dollars in scholarships annually; typically granting scholarships of $500-$2,000 per student based on need.
