For the classic Australian University experience in a city that natives consider "the San Francisco of Australia," consider a semester or academic year at Monash University. Monash typifies the modern Australian university: it's big, with more than 40,000 students, many of whom hail from outside of the country. It's comprehensive, too, offering thousands of courses in every subject area under the sun. Program participants can choose to study at any of the university's three campuses--two in Melbourne (in Clayton and Caulfield) and a smaller campus in Gippsland, about 100 miles outside of the city. Arcadia University participants are expected to enroll in four courses per semester, earning sixteen semester hours of credit. Outside of the classroom, you'll find hundreds of clubs and societies, myriad campus events, and, on the Clayton campus, a newspaper and radio station. In addition, Arcadia University organizes social activities, day field trips and overnight excursions to give participants broad exposure to Australian culture.
