For beginners and advanced Spanish language students, CIEE offers a semester or year abroad in Barcelona. Spend your days taking classes at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and your nights learning how to cook Spanish cuisine. During their stay students will live with Spanish families as they strengthen their Spanish language skills. Courses are taught in English and Spanish.

Students can earn up to 15 semester units during the Fall or Spring terms or 30 semester units during the Academic Year. Students will take a placement exam upon arriving in Barcelona to determine their Spanish Language level. For the first few weeks of the program students will take an intensive language course at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. For the rest of the semester, all students are required to enroll in beginning or intermediate Spanish and three electives chosen from CIEE or Hispanic and European Studies Program (HESP) Electives courses. All courses are taught by faculty from the UPF or the CIEE Center in Barcelona.

Students interested in applying for the CIEE Language and Culture Program in Barcelona, Spain can do so online (www.ciee.org) or by postal mail. The application fee is $30. Applications are accepted and processed on a rolling basis, and prospective participants are encouraged to submit applications well ahead of application deadlines. (Deadlines can be found on the CIEE web-site, as well as on the application itself.) Late applications will be considered on a space-available basis. Applicants will be informed of their status via e-mail within ten days of CIEE's receipt of their application.
CIEE Language and Culture in Barcelona Tuition:
Spring 2009 (16 Weeks) Tuition: $15,100; Fall 2009 (15 Weeks) Tuition: TBA; Academic Year (31 Weeks) Tuition: $22,900. The CIEE fees include an optional on-site airport meet and greet, full-time leadership and support, tuition, housing, two meals per day, orientation, organized cultural activities such as museums, cathedrals, and the port, local excursions to Girona and Tarragona, and field trips to locations such as Madrid or Spain’s northern coast, predeparture advising, and a CIEE iNext travel card which provides insurance and other travel benefits.
